Job summary

University of Nebraska-Lincoln is seeking a Lead Water Analyst to plan, design, and oversee campus-wide water chemistry programs for boilers, chillers, and cooling towers. You will administer chemical treatments, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement across plant water systems.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, 5+ years in water/steam chemistry, and strong leadership/communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field and/or experience.
  • 5+ years in water/steam chemistry, water treatment, or plant chemistry functions.
  • 1+ year leading or supervising staff or providing technical leadership.
  • Knowledge of water treatment principles, corrosion control, and system optimization.
  • Experience administering water/steam chemistry programs and compliance.
  • Familiarity with budgets, vendor contracts, and cost tracking.
  • Excellent communication and ability to convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
  • Valid driver's license and campus emergency availability on weekends/after hours.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, maintain, and improve campus-wide water chemistry programs for boilers, chillers, and cooling systems.
  • Administer water and steam chemistry programs to maintain compliance and efficiency.
  • Develop procedures, logs, and documentation for daily water chemistry practices.
  • Oversee daily water chemistry testing, sample collection, analysis, and data interpretation.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot equipment, and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Lead safety, wastewater, stormwater, and chemical safety compliance activities.
  • Coordinate with Environmental Health and Safety and participate in safety committees.
  • Train staff on safe water treatment operations and foster cross-department collaboration.
  • Research vendors and manage procurement and contractor performance.
