Job summary

The City of Belen is seeking a Laborer (Operator I-II) to join the Water Department as a full-time employee. You will perform semi-skilled work related to water systems, construction, maintenance, and environmental protection, with on-call duties for water breaks.

Starting salary ranges from $38,251 to $47,236 annually, depending on water level certifications. A high school diploma or GED is required, plus a valid NM driver’s license; CDL is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED plus one year of additional education.
  • Valid New Mexico driver’s license; CDL preferred.
  • Willing to obtain Water Level I/Waste Water Level I within eighteen months of hire.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must pass background check and drug/alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

  • Follows City policies and procedures as set forth by the City of Belen.
  • Constructs and maintains water systems; performs basic janitorial tasks; ensures proper installation and maintenance of water systems equipment.
  • Reads and installs community water utilization meters.
  • Responds to water breaks during on-call/off-hours.
  • Operates water department equipment as needed.
  • Performs related duties and may assist with sewer issues as required.
