City of Somerville is seeking a Billing Clerk for the water utility to process final water bills daily and assist in managing 17,000 water accounts. You will analyze the billing process, respond to customer inquiries, and support month-end reporting.
The ideal candidate has an associate's degree and 3–5 years in accounting or bookkeeping, strong data processing skills, and excellent organizational abilities. This is a full-time, on-site municipal position with benefits.
Associate's degree preferred with three to five (3-5} years related work experience in the accounting/bookkeeping field; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
Knowledge: Thorough working knowledge of office procedures and machines; some knowledge of municipal government.
Ability: Ability to meet and deal with the public effectively and appropriately; ability to handle problems and emergencies effectively; ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; ability to operate a computer; ability to maintain confidential information; ability to maintain, manage, and organize records; ability to deal appropriately with City employees, City officials and the general public.
Skill: Excellent organizational skills; excellent data processing skill in the use of personal computers and office software including word processing, data base and spreadsheet applications. Extensive customer skills.
