Job description

A job at TSMC Arizona offers an opportunity to work at the most advanced semiconductor fab in the United States. TSMC Arizona’s first fab will operate its leading-edge semiconductor process technology (N4 process), starting production in the first half of 2025. The second fab will utilize its leading-edge N3 and N2 process technology and be operational in 2028. The recently announced third fab will manufacture chips using 2nm or even more advanced process technology, with production starting by the end of the decade. America’s leading technology companies are ready to rely on TSMC Arizona for the next generations of chips that will power the digital future.

As a Water System Project Engineer (New FAB Construction), you will demonstrate a strong sense of reliability and enthusiasm and will possess an attitude that embodies our core values – Integrity, Commitment, Innovation and Customer Trust.

  • The Water System Project Engineer is responsible for managing and leading the construction, engineering coordination, and commissioning of one of the largest and most complex Industrial Water Reclamation systems in North America. Our systems are designed to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption, creating a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment.

Water System Project Engineers work in a dynamic field-engineering role, balancing active hands-on site coordination (approx. 50/50) with engineering design review and project management in an office environment.

Responsibilities
  • Construction & Project Execution: Coordinate, supervise, and drive the field construction, piping installation, and commissioning of new fab water systems (UPW [Ultra Pure Water], wastewater, and reclamation).
  • Schedule & Quality Control: Take active ownership of construction schedules, field inspection checklists, and quality control protocols to ensure systems are built to TSMC’s ultra-high-purity (UHP) standards.
  • Cross-Organizational Coordination: Act as the central engineering link between local trade partners, general contractors, equipment suppliers, and TSMC's internal design and operations teams to resolve spatial, mechanical, and process interferences.
  • Commissioning Support: Actively participate in the system start-up, pressure/leak testing, and functional testing of pumps, filtration systems, and water treatment equipment.
  • Contractor Management: Support the development, training, and alignment of local specialty subcontractors to ensure their field execution complies with rigorous safety and engineering requirements.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, Water Resources, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in industrial water/wastewater systems (UPW, DI [De-ionized], RO [Reverse Osmosis], or specialized wastewater treatment).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Hands-on experience in construction supervision, engineering project management, or facility design/operation with a consulting, contracting, or manufacturing firm.
  • Interpersonal Skills:
    • A proactive, self-driven mindset with a strong track record of identifying and solving operational bottlenecks independently.
    • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable logic for both operators and executives.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to quickly master unfamiliar hardware/software systems and technical documentation.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • May spend extended hours working inside and outside in all weather conditions, and in awkward body positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain.
    • The position will come in contact with sharp, hot, and cold equipment, and parts.
    • Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with industrial chemical/water operations, exposure to the sounds associated with powered tools and industrial equipment.
    • Must have the ability to safely climb ladders, and work at elevation from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, roofs, or platforms, and the ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Training:
    • Opportunity for global exposure, including structured technical training at TSMC’s headquarters in Taiwan to master the world's most advanced semiconductor manufacturing utilities technology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Chemical, Environmental, Water Resources, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical field.
  • Experience within the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, power generation, or high-tech manufacturing sectors—or with top-tier industrial water consulting firms.
