Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job Description

TSMC Arizona is looking for experienced Water Technicians to join our growing Facilities team located in Phoenix, Arizona. As a Water Technician, you will demonstrate a strong sense of reliability and enthusiasm and will possess an attitude that embodies our core values – Integrity, Commitment, Innovation and Customer Trust.

The Water Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Ultrapure Water (UPW), Process Cooling Water (PCW), and Industrial Waste treatment (IWT) systems and equipment. Our systems are designed to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption, creating a state-of-the-art manufacturing environment.

Water Technicians work in a dynamic, hands-on role, balancing active field operations, routine system maintenance, laboratory testing, and safety compliance protocols to ensure continuous flow to the factory tools.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will possess the following:

• System Operations & Controls: Safely operate, monitor, and control site water treatment and distribution systems (UPW, PCW, IWT). Start and adjust automatic feeds of solid and liquid materials through equipment units (including ion exchange beds, mixing tanks, and filter presses).
• Preventative & Corrective Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance at specified intervals to keep process equipment clean and operating at optimum levels. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and execute corrective repairs to resolve system malfunctions and restore equipment to specifications.
• Rounds & Instrumentation: Perform regular facility rounds and patrols to inspect equipment for leaks or hazards. Log gauge readings, shift throughput, tank levels, and system parameters, adjusting indicating and controlling devices (temperature, flow, and gas analyzers) as required.
• Quality Assurance & Lab Testing: Draw process samples at critical operational stages and perform pH, temperature, gas, and analytical testing. Correlate field observations with laboratory results to ensure material quality remains within strict factory and regulatory limits.
• Safety & Environmental Compliance: Adhere to all safety policies, manufacturer requirements, and environmental protection regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly workplace and immediately report or correct any operational discrepancies.
• Emergency Response Team (ERT): If hired, you may be required to participate in and perform ERT duties as an essential part of the role. These duties include responding to F21 incidents (medical, chemical, fire, or business disruptions). If selected by your manager, participation is mandatory, and additional compensation will be provided via a monthly premium.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

• Education:
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Technical College, Associate Degree, or Trade Program certificate is highly preferred.
• Technical Skills & Experience:
  • Previous hands-on knowledge in the operation of industrial, commercial, or military process piping systems and equipment.
  • Fundamental understanding of water technology, including Reverse Osmosis (RO), Ion Exchange, pumping, filtration, and automation.
  • Strong mathematical competency (fractions, addition, subtraction, division) and the ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering flow drawings (P&IDs) and specifications.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • 5+ years of experience with process piping systems working in an industrial setting (semiconductor, pharmaceutical, chemical processing, or municipal/industrial water treatment).
    • Prior experience operating laboratory, analytical, or chemical dosing equipment.

Interpersonal Skills

• A proactive, self-driven mindset with a strong commitment to personal, process, and workforce safety.
• Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other technicians, supervisors, engineers, and managers.
• Computer proficiency, including the ability to operate corporate email, spreadsheets, word processing programs, and engineering drawing databases.
• Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and demonstrate attributes of honesty, trustworthiness, and strong workplace ethics.
• Willingness and flexibility to work overtime, support shift rotations, or be called in during emergencies to support business operations.

Physical Requirements

• May spend extended hours working inside and outside in all weather conditions, and in awkward body positions which can cause physical discomfort and strain.
• Required to regularly lift up to 50 lbs and to adjust heavy objects.
• The position will foreseeably come in contact with sharp, hot, and cold equipment and parts.
• Must be medically qualified to wear a personal respirator.
• Sensory demands include exposure to the smells associated with industrial chemical/water operations, and exposure to the sounds associated with powered tools and industrial equipment.
• Must have the ability to safely climb ladders, work at elevation (scaffolding, lifts, roofs, or platforms), and work in confined spaces.

Shift Expectations

• Training: 2–12 months, including on-the-job training, SOP learning, and hands-on practice.
• Shifts: Compressed work week schedules (12-hour shifts, day or night) with potential overtime and shift differentials.
• Onsite work ONLY, no remote options available.
