Job summary

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality is seeking a Water Supply Planning Analyst to provide technical oversight and expert input for statewide reporting on water use. The position is full-time and hybrid, operating from Virginia with a required driver’s license.

You will coordinate with agency programs, review local planning documents, and produce reports on current and future water supply and demands while assisting clients to resolve issues and communicating policy implications.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Environmental Planning and Water Resource Development Project principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Virginia and federal environmental law and regulations.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities in project management; and personal computer operations.
  • Knowledge of hydrology and hydrogeology principles.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and properly apply complex environmental policies, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Ability to manage competing tasks and projects with competing timelines.
  • Combination of education or training with major coursework in environmental planning, civil or environmental engineering, water resources management, or natural sciences.

Job Description

This position provides technical oversight and expertise to the Water Supply Planning Program working as part of a team of water supply planners and data scientists to ensure statewide program effectiveness and consistency. This position may require you to operate a state owned or leased vehicle. Therefore, a valid driver's license is required. Please note this position follows a hybrid work schedule to include both in-office and telework. Candidates must be able to work from the assigned work location in Virginia.

Hiring Range

$59,754 - $84,913

Full Time or Part Time

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this position are to facilitate reporting of statewide water use, coordinate with other agency programs, and develop reports communicating current and future water supply and demands.

This position provides planning guidance and technical review of all local and/or regional planning documents necessary to manage the Commonwealth’s water resources.

Assists localities in supplying information where deficiencies are identified in the submitted programs, working with clients to resolve issues efficiently, openly, fairly, and consistently.

Involved in the development and delivery of outreach materials and presentations to increase awareness of water resources needs and goals of the Water Supply Planning & Analysis program and Office of Water Supply.

  • Knowledge of Environmental Planning and Water Resource Development Project principles and practices, gained through education and/or work experience.
  • Knowledge of Virginia and federal environmental law and regulations.
