Position Definition

Water Supply Operator III Accountability: The role may be a Designated Shift Operator as per California SWRCB standards, working under the supervision of the Water Supply Superintendent or Operations Superintendent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Operate and monitor water supply and treatment equipment, including pumping systems, chemical feeders, measurement and control systems, groundwater wells, filtration, and exchange units.
  2. Perform skilled and semi-skilled work in operation, monitoring, and maintenance of water sources and treatment systems, including groundwater treatment.
  3. Train, mentor, and direct Water Supply Operators I and II.
  4. Oversee efficiency testing of pumps and equipment.
  5. Perform advanced maintenance on plant equipment and facilities.
  6. Handle chemicals, perform water sample analysis, and calculations related to dosing and flow rates.
  7. Maintain treatment and supply records, including chemical inventory management.
  8. Participate in field checks, project meetings, and water system operations related to capital and maintenance projects.
  9. Adhere to safety standards for equipment, facilities, and chemical handling.
  10. Respond to emergencies as needed, including after-hours work, with residence within 25 miles of the water system boundary.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid California Driver's license.
  • Proficiency in PC applications (Windows, Word, Spreadsheets).
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Physical ability to perform duties, including standing, lifting, and climbing.
Technical Skills and Experience
  • Three years as Water Supply Operator II or five years water utility experience.
  • SWRCB Grade 2 Water Treatment and Distribution Operator Certificates.
  • Excellent math skills and experience with SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, chemistry, and biology.
