Job summary

Hennig in Illinois seeks a Water Spider II to independently coordinate material movement and availability in assigned manufacturing areas. This experienced role builds on Water Spider I duties and uses production schedules, blueprints, models, and manufacturing systems to identify material needs and proactively address interruptions.

You will prioritize material handling, verify parts with tapes measures, read models/diagrams, and support supervisors with root-cause analysis of missing parts.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum one year of continuous manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to read English.
  • Experience with material handling preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize material-handling activities based on production needs and locate missing materials.
  • Follow processes, procedures, and work instructions for the assigned work center.
  • Access computer systems to review models/blueprints and verify material requirements.
  • Use fabrication plans and check sheets to determine material needs and organize parts.
  • Understand and use the ANDON system and escalation process.
  • Monitor the production schedule and identify material or process issues.
  • Verify completion of fabrication plans and confirm work is done.
  • Escalate shortages and concerns to Team Lead and Supervisor.
  • Recognize parts by name and visual characteristics.
  • Use measuring tools to double-check part dimensions.
  • Assist with root-cause analysis for missing-part issues.
  • Operate basic tools and PPE as required.
  • Support 5S workplace organization and housekeeping.

In addition to performing Water Spider I responsibilities, the Water Spider II uses production schedules, fabrication plans, check sheets, blueprints/models, and manufacturing systems to identify material requirements and proactively address potential production interruptions.

The Water Spider II is an experienced material-handling and production-support position responsible for independently coordinating material movement and availability within assigned manufacturing areas. In addition to performing Water Spider I responsibilities, the Water Spider II uses production schedules, fabrication plans, check sheets, blueprints/models, and manufacturing systems to identify material requirements and proactively address potential production interruptions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prioritize material-handling activities based on production needs, including organizing parts and locating missing materials.
  • Independently follow the processes, procedures, and work instructions associated with the assigned work center.
  • Access computer systems to review models and blueprints and verify correct material and part requirements.
  • Use fabrication plans and check sheets to determine material requirements, organize parts, and locate missing components.
  • Understand and use the ANDON system, including properly entering ANDONs and following the established escalation process.
  • Monitor the production schedule and identify material or process issues that could negatively impact production.
  • Verify completion of fabrication plans and confirm that required work has been completed.
  • Escalate material shortages and production concerns to the appropriate Team Lead and Supervisor.
  • Recognize parts by name and visual characteristics.
  • Apply knowledge of the assembly process to determine where parts are required, where applicable.
  • Use measuring tools to double-check the bend quality of parts coming from the bending work center.
  • Apply knowledge of shop‑floor processes to assist Supervisors with root‑cause analysis related to missing‑part issues.
  • Operate power/hand tools, basic measuring equipment, including tape measures and calipers, to verify part dimensions.
  • Adhere to established work schedules, break periods, and company policies regarding phone use, smoking, music, and general workplace conduct.
  • Consistently wear and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, cut‑resistant gloves, safety footwear, and other designated safety equipment.
  • Support and maintain 5S workplace organization standards and housekeeping requirements within the assigned work center.
  • Understand and follow quality standards and workmanship requirements for assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Perform other material‑handling and production‑support duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma/GED required
  • Experience: One year of continuous experience in a manufacturing environment required. Previous material handling experience preferred.
  • Reading Ability: Must be able to read and understand English
Skills
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read tape measures and perform basic measurements in standard and metric units.
  • Accurately interpret and follow blueprints, diagrams, and written instructions.
  • Perform mechanical equipment troubleshooting according to inspection procedures.
  • Maintain high-quality output and on‑time delivery in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Exhibit strong attention to detail.
  • Provide flexible support across all production areas as needed.
Physical Demands

A Water Spider is more than a Material Handler. This role is a critical link in keeping production moving. Rather than spending the entire shift on a forklift, Water Spiders work throughout the shop to locate, organize, verify, and deliver materials while identifying shortages and communicating potential production issues. Success in this position requires initiative, organization, problem‑solving skills, and a willingness to stay actively involved on the production floor.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, lift and/or move up to 40 lbs., bend, use hands, and fingers for 8 + hours. (Overtime may be required)
