Job summary

The City of Peekskill seeks a leadership professional to direct the operation and technical activities of its water and sewer system, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and protecting public health.

Responsibilities include supervising the water treatment facility, distribution system, and pumping stations; procuring supplies; managing budgets; and responding to emergencies after hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with five years of experience in design, maintenance and repair of pumps, engines, motors and mechanical equipment.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering may substitute for four years of experience.
• Possession of a Water Treatment Plant Operator's Certificate if incumbent is the responsible operator.

Responsibilities

• Direct, troubleshoot, and coordinate operation and maintenance of a large water treatment facility and distribution system.
• Procure materials, manage inventory, and oversee competitive bid specifications.
• Monitor budgets, overtime, payroll, and respond to water main breaks and emergencies.
• Review designs, plans, and ensure compliance with building codes, health regulations, and standards.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and consultants on bids and projects; supervise staff.
