Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company in Richmond, VA seeks a Pipelayer to install and repair waterline, sanitary sewer and storm sewer on multiple job sites. You will align, position, and join pipe sections, operate lasers and transit levels, and work outdoors in all seasons.

Respond to field directions, maintain safety, and may supervise others as needed. Overtime, nights and weekends may be required; start between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM. Compensation ranges from $20 to $30 per hour plus benefits.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year experience on a utility crew.
• Working knowledge of shoring and excavation.
• Ability to read cut/grade sheets.
• Outdoor environment work in all seasons.
• Communicate with operators, workers and pedestrians.
• Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair waterlines, sanitary sewers and storm sewers.
• Align and position pipes to prepare joining.
• Connect pipe pieces and seal joints.
• Install and use lasers, grade rods and transit levels.
• Check slopes for conformance using levels or lasers.
• Assist with covering pipes with earth or other materials.
• Cut pipes to required lengths while digging trenches.
• Grade and level trench bases using tamping tools.
• Work in confined spaces; may supervise others and train staff.
• Maintain health and safety culture and positive relationships with customers.
