Job Title: Water/Sewer Maintenance Worker I

FLSA: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Department: Water/Sewer

Reports to: Water Foreman

Salary Range: $15.00 - $18.96 (Depending on experience and qualifications)

General Purpose:

Under supervision, performs unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work and operates equipment related to city water/sewer systems, facilities, streets, driveways, and walkways. This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing, including federal regulations regarding marijuana.

Essential Functions:

• Inspects and repairs water and sewer systems regularly.
• Maintains records of inspections and maintenance.
• Locates utility lines prior to excavation.
• Communicates with customers about service disconnections and reconnections.
• Maintains equipment and tools.
• Drives trucks and operates equipment for hauling and construction.
• Performs routine equipment inspections and preventive maintenance.
• Follows safety standards.
• Participates in construction and maintenance projects, including digging, pipe repair, and installation.
• Repairs and installs water mains, pipes, hydrants, and fittings.
• Operates power construction and maintenance equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

• Knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures.
• Skill in operating relevant tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks, work safely, communicate effectively, and follow instructions.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• 1-2 years of water/sewer system experience preferred.
• Equivalent education and experience acceptable.
• Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and CDL Class B with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain.
• Must be insurable.
• Must obtain a Certificate of Competency (D level or higher) from the Department of Environmental Quality within one year of appointment.

Tools and Equipment:

Includes trucks, backhoe, saws, pumps, compressors, generators, hand tools, detection devices, radios, and other construction tools.

Physical Demands:

Regularly requires handling objects, standing, talking, hearing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and smelling. Must lift up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally. Vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment:

Primarily outdoors, exposed to weather, moving mechanical parts, humidity, vibration, heights, chemicals, and electrical hazards. Noise levels are usually loud.
