Job Title: Water/Sewer Maintenance Worker I
FLSA: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Department: Water/Sewer Reports to: Water Foreman

Salary Range: $15.00 - $18.96 (Depending on experience and qualifications)

General Purpose: Under the general supervision of the Water Foreman, performs a variety of unskilled or semi-skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of city water/sewer systems, facilities, streets, driveways, and walkways. This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.

Essential Functions:

• Inspects and/or repairs water distribution system and sewer system at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.
• Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections and maintenance activities of both systems.
• Determines the locations of underground utilities prior to excavation.
• Contacts residents and business owners regarding service disconnections.
• Drives trucks, performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Performs construction and maintenance labor as part of a crew.
• Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

• Knowledge of maintenance, construction, and repair activities.
• Skill in operation of tools and equipment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual tasks, work safely, communicate effectively, establish working relationships, and follow instructions.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school education or GED equivalent.
• 1-2 years of water/sewer system work preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Valid Oklahoma state driver's license and CDL Class “B” with air brake endorsement, or ability to obtain one.
• Must be insurable with the City’s insurance carrier.
• Hold a Certificate of Competency as water and sewer work operator.

Tools and Equipment: Motorized vehicles and equipment, including dump truck, pickup truck, backhoe, saws, pumps, compressors, generators, jackhammer, hand and power tools, detection devices, mobile radio, phone, ditch witch.

Physical Demands: The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment: The employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, near moving mechanical parts, and is exposed to wet/humid conditions and vibration. Occasionally works in high places and is exposed to various substances and noise.
