Job summary

The City of Phoenix is seeking a Water Services Technician to join the Water Meter Division. You will perform semi-skilled maintenance, meter reading and meter repair in outdoor settings, with duties that may include route work or rover assignments, all under supervision.

About This Position

The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, one of the nation's largest potable water utilities, treats and delivers safe, reliable drinking water to 1.5 million customers across approximately 540 square miles. Phoenix Water Services also manages the sewer collection system and treats wastewater for 2.5 million residents in metropolitan Phoenix.

The Water Services Department has an opening for a Water Services Technician. In this role you will perform a variety of field work including semi-skilled maintenance, preventative maintenance tasks, meter reading and meter repair in the Water Services Department, Water Meter Division. Assignments will vary based on operational needs, including working as a route person or a rover backing assigned routes. As a Water Services Technician you will work under the general supervision of a Water Customer Services Supervisor I or II.

SALARY

Pay Range: $20.51 to $35.08 per hour.

Hiring Range: $20.51 to $27.49 per hour.

  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Acceptable completion of the Water Services Technician Trainee program or equivalent.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
  • Working conditions:
    • Travel across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces to check meters, service lines, etc., in unpaved easements is required.
    • Work outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust is required.
    • Move objects weighing up to 50 pounds is required.
    • Work around insects, reptiles, and animals is required.
    • Work irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • These positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Preferred Qualifications

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus experience in/with the following:

  • Reading and interpreting city geography and street addresses.
  • Entering data into a work order management system.
  • Basic plumbing and/or sprinkler system repair and maintenance.
