The City of Longview is seeking a Water Service Representative Apprentice to read and record water meter data, report issues, and maintain equipment. This role requires strong customer service skills and is ideal for individuals with a high school diploma and meter reading experience. Work is predominantly outdoors, necessitating physical stamina and a valid Texas driver's license.

Reads and records customer's water consumption rate, and checks water meters for proper functioning.
Reads residential and commercial water meters on an assigned route; records water consumption data using a hand-held field computer. Reports outages, leaks, hazards, and unusual or suspicious meter conditions to a supervisor; disconnects meters as directed; performs minor repairs within scope of authority and training. Assures that meters are registering properly, and verifies irregular meter readings. Checks for water leaks and damage around the meter and meter box; keeps meter box and valve areas clean and unobstructed by clearing overgrowth and debris. Responds to customer inquiries and complaints and reports information to supervisor. Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports problems and emergency situations. Operates and maintains vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair. Downloads daily meter readings to computer and completes daily work log. Follows departmental policies and procedures; reports City code violations to supervisor. Cross-trains on additional Department work tasks as assigned. Performs other related duties as assigned or required.
High School diploma or GED equivalent, and six months of Meter Reader experience, preferably in the City of Longview; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
Work is performed outdoors; constant physical effort is required to walk assigned routes.
