Job summary

Haley Ward is seeking a Water Resources Project Engineer in Portland, ME to plan, organize, and control project activities within schedules and budgets. The role entails municipal water, sewer, and roadway infrastructure projects, dam work, and stormwater management in a collaborative team setting.

You will lead hydraulic design, pump station concepts to commissioning, and SCADA integration, while mentoring junior engineers and pursuing innovative, sustainable approaches.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering is required.
  • PE license with 4+ years of related experience or EIT on track to PE with 5+ years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years design experience with water/wastewater systems.
  • SCADA systems interest - design, programming or integration.
  • Pump station design expertise from concept to commissioning.
  • Strong skills in AutoCAD and hydraulic modeling software.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and controls project activities within budgets and schedules.
  • Leads complex hydraulic design projects for municipal water distribution and treatment facilities.
  • Designs and integrates SCADA/control systems for automated monitoring and operation.
  • Mentors junior engineers and promotes sustainable design approaches.
  • Interacts with regulatory staff and represents clients at hearings or meetings.
  • Assists in proposal development including scope, schedule, and manpower estimates.

What you can expect to be doing:

Haley Ward is looking for a Water Resources Project Engineer who will plan, organize, and control the activities of projects to best accomplish the successful completion of all projects to which assigned while operating within the guidelines established by the Project Manager, and within established schedules, budgets, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) policy constraints. Typical projects will entail municipal water, sewer, and roadway infrastructure, dams, site planning, and stormwater management. You will work in a team environment on a broad range of engineering projects from planning through implementation.

  • Supports project team toward preparation of a professional, economical, and effective set of plans and specifications for each individual project.
  • Conducts engineering computations to design difficult and complex engineering projects.
  • Communicates directly with governmental/regulatory staff relative to design concepts and requirements. Represents clients at regulatory agency hearings or meetings.
  • Performs overall quality control of the work (budget, schedule, plans) and reports regularly on project status to Project Manager.
  • Monitors compliance with applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications.
  • Responsible for the design concept of the plans and specifications.
  • Lead complex hydraulic design projects for municipal water distribution, collection systems, and treatment facilities.
  • Engineer pump stations from concept to commissioning - including electrical controls, telemetry, and automation systems.
  • Consults and advises field engineers, contractors, and inspectors regarding the construction phase of the project.
  • Communicates with the Project Manager on project strategy and matters that may impact the outcome of a project.
  • Assists in preparation of project proposals including scope of work, time schedule, and manpower estimates.
  • Promotes new business for the total company and for their own area of expertise.
  • Design and integrate SCADA control systems for automated monitoring and operation of water/wastewater infrastructure.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive innovation in sustainable design approaches.

What you will need to succeed:

  • BS in Civil Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license with a minimum of 4 years of related experience OR Registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) on track to attain PE license with a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years design experience with water/wastewater systems.
  • SCADA systems interest - design, programming, or integration of control systems.
  • Pump station design expertise - from wet wells and pump systems to electrical/control systems.
  • Skills in AutoCAD, hydraulic modeling software, and control system design desirable.
  • Sound mathematical skills are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Valid driver's license & reliable transportation required.

The estimated range for this role is: $87,360 to $102,960. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as related work experience, location, market conditions, education/training, certifications, credentials, skills, and demonstrated proficiency for the role. Compensation is reviewed at least annually each year. Compensation is also adjusted throughout the year to recognize position advancement, responsibilities and licensure and/or certification.
