Job summary

STV seeks a Water Resources Engineer to join the Transportation Practice in Owings Mills, MD or Fairfax, VA. You will lead design teams, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with clients on hydraulic design, stormwater management, and erosion control for MDOT, VDOT, and municipal projects.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in water resources design, PE licensure preferred, and proficiency with HEC-RAS, SWMM, GIS, and MicroStation Inroads.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; MD/VA PE preferred
• Experience in all technical aspects of Water Resources Engineering including stormwater, BMPs, erosion control and permitting
• Experience with MDOT/VDOT or municipal clients is a plus
• Knowledge of NPDES and Chesapeake Bay TMDL requirements
• Minimum of 8 years progressive water resource design experience
• Proficient with MicroStation Inroads and ESRI ArcGIS
• Strong communication skills

Job description

STV is looking for a Water Resources Engineer with our Transportation Practice out of either our Owings Mills, MD or Fairfax, VA location. This role offers unlimited opportunities to manage projects, mentor junior staff, interact directly with clients, while promoting the culture of a healthy work-life balance. This role offers the opportunity to function as a key resource in support of our other offices and have a direct impact on the improvement of infrastructure nationally. The Water Resources Engineering opportunity offers excellent potential for career advancement as this individual would assist other senior staff in guiding transportation agencies in Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. The ideal candidate is an individual who desires to lead a team, displays confidence, and possesses a vast understanding of hydraulic design principles, erosion and sediment control and stormwater management.

Responsibilities

• Providing professional design services for transportation improvement projects for MDOT (SHA, MDTA, MTA and MPA), VDOT, DDOT, Baltimore City and other County/City agencies
• Developing design plans including storm drains, culverts, storm water management, BMPs, ESD facilities and erosion and sediment control
• Coordinating design development, task management and assisting with technical direction to other design staff
• Coordinating with the design team to achieve quality deliverables within the established schedule and budget
• Assisting with the development of specifications, cost estimates and technical reports
• Establishing working relationships and interfacing with client technical staff and project managers
• Mentoring supporting water resource design staff
• Attending project meetings with clients, sub-consultants, and the project team.

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering MD or VA Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
• Experience in all technical aspects of Water Resources Engineering - design of storm drains, culverts, storm water management, BMPs, GI/ESD facilities, erosion and sediment control, and environmental permitting
• Experience using hydrologic and hydraulic software such as GISHydro 2000, TR-55, TR-20, HY-8, HydroCAD. HEC-RAS, and SWMM model.
• MDOT, VDOT and municipal client experience is a plus
• Familiarity with NPDES permit requirements of municipalities and other government entities
• Knowledge of Chesapeake Bay TMDL requirements
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive water resource design experience
• Proficient with MicroStation Inroads modeling and ESRI ArcGIS
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner

Compensation Range: $99,431.03 - $113,635.46
