Job summary

STV is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to join our Transportation Practice in Owings Mills, MD or Fairfax, VA. The role focuses on leading water resources design for transportation projects, mentoring junior staff, and direct client interaction to improve infrastructure nationwide.

The ideal candidate will have deep hydraulics knowledge, experience with design software, and a PE license is preferred. MD/VA project exposure and strong communication skills are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• MD or VA PE license preferred.
• Experience in design of storm drains, culverts, storm water management, BMPs, GI/ESD facilities, erosion and sediment control, and environmental permitting.
• Knowledge of Chesapeake Bay TMDL requirements and NPDES permits.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional design services for transportation improvement projects for MDOT, VDOT, and local agencies.
• Develop design plans including storm drains, culverts, water management facilities, BMPs, and ESD.
• Coordinate design development and assist with technical direction to staff.
• Coordinate with team to meet quality deliverables within schedule and budget.
• Develop specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports.
• Interface with client staff and project managers; mentor water resources staff.
• Attend meetings with clients and sub-consultants.

Job description

STV is looking for a Water Resources Engineer with our Transportation Practice out of either our Owings Mills, MD or Fairfax, VA location. The Water Resources Engineering opportunity offers excellent potential for career advancement as this individual would assist other senior staff in guiding transportation agencies in Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. The ideal candidate is an individual who desires to lead a team, displays confidence, and possesses a vast understanding of hydraulic design principles, erosion and sediment control and stormwater management.

Responsibilities include

• Providing professional design services for transportation improvement projects for MDOT (SHA, MDTA, MTA and MPA), VDOT, DDOT, Baltimore City and other County/City agencies
• Developing design plans including storm drains, culverts, storm water management, BMPs, ESD facilities and erosion and sediment control
• Coordinating design development, task management and assisting with technical direction to other design staff
• Coordinating with the design team to achieve quality deliverables within the established schedule and budget
• Assisting with the development of specifications, cost estimates and technical reports
• Establishing working relationships and interfacing with client technical staff and project managers
• Mentoring supporting water resource design staff
• Attending project meetings with clients, sub-consultants, and the project team.

Required Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
• MD or VA Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
• Experience in all technical aspects of Water Resources Engineering - design of storm drains, culverts, storm water management, BMPs, GI/ESD facilities, erosion and sediment control, and environmental permitting
• Experience using hydrologic and hydraulic software such as GISHydro 2000, TR-55, TR-20, HY-8, HydroCAD. HEC-RAS, and SWMM model.
• MDOT, VDOT and municipal client experience is a plus
• Familiarity with NPDES permit requirements of municipalities and other government entities
• Knowledge of Chesapeake Bay TMDL requirements
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive water resourcedesign experience
• Proficient with MicroStation Inroads modeling andESRI ArcGIS
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Must be able to fulfill essential job functions in a consistent state of alertness and safe manner

Compensation Range

$99,431.03 - $113,635.46
