Job summary

HDR is seeking a Water Resources EIT/Coordinator in Des Moines, IA. You’ll work on flood risk reduction, levees, wetland restoration, and riverine structures, supporting public health and infrastructure resilience with project engineers and modeling techniques.

You will focus on hydraulics and hydrologic modeling, data collection, calculations, and reports; the role includes collaboration with local municipalities, and adherence to HDR's employee‑owned culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field.
  • EIT certificate preferred; candidate without EIT may be placed into a Design Coordinator role to pursue EIT.
  • Familiarity with CAD software including AutoCAD Civil3D and Bentley ORD; familiarity with HEC-HMS/RAS, SWMM, or other hydraulic analysis software.

  • Focus on water resources projects including flood risk reduction, levees, dam and spillway rehabilitation, flood control, channel restoration/rehabilitation, grade control structures, wetland and lake restoration, stormwater detention and conveyance, and riverine structures.
  • Work under project engineers on the application of various design engineering and modeling techniques in the development of water resource projects for federal, state and local municipalities.
  • Focus on hydraulics and hydrologic modeling, stormwater collection systems modeling, data collection, assimilation, and presentations.
  • Produce design calculations, draft technical reports and perform water resources studies.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Position: Water Resources EIT/Coordinator

As part of our Water Business Group, you’ll help shape how communities manage water for generations to come. Your work will directly support public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience.

Responsibilities
  • Focus on water resources projects including flood risk reduction, levees, dam and spillway rehabilitation, flood control, channel restoration/rehabilitation, grade control structures, wetland and lake restoration, stormwater detention and conveyance, and riverine structures.
  • Work under project engineers on the application of various design engineering and modeling techniques in the development of water resource projects for federal, state and local municipalities.
  • Focus on hydraulics and hydrologic modeling, stormwater collection systems modeling, data collection, assimilation, and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate.
  • Candidate without an EIT will be placed into a Design Coordinator job code and expected to obtain the EIT for career progression.
  • Familiarity with CAD software including AutoCAD Civil3D and/or Bentley ORD.
  • Familiarity with H&H design software including HEC-HMS/RAS, SWMM, or other channel/conduit hydraulic analysis software.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Suite, standard CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, and hydraulic modeling software.
  • Self‑motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to completion of tasks.
  • Commitment to being an active participant of our employee‑owned culture.
