Eastern Municipal Water District is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill 2 vacancies in our Water Reclamation Department for the position of Water Reclamation Plant Operator In Training, I, II, or III. The purpose of this recruitment is to fill two (2) vacant positions at the San Jacinto Valley Regional Water Reclamation Facility. The positions may be filled as Water Reclamation Plant Operator in Training, I, II, or III depending on candidate qualifications.
*Personnel in this classification are subject to on-call duties, including rotating shifts, weekends, and 24-hour emergency call outs with little or no notice.
**Personnel in this classification must reside within a 60-minute on-call response time radius.
***NOTE: In-person testing will be required if selected to proceed in the recruitment process.
Under immediate (OIT/I) to general (II) supervision, or (III) direction, performs duties related to the operation and maintenance of the District’s water treatment facilities.
This is a structured on-the-job training class in the Water Reclamation Plant Operator series. Incumbents follow prescribed procedures, usually under close supervision, and refer unusual issues to a supervisor or higher-level operator. Employees may work independently on routine tasks.
Water Reclamation Plant Operator in Training (OIT): This is a structured training class where incumbents follow standardized procedures under close supervision and refer complex issues to supervisors.
Water Reclamation Plant Operator I: Entry-level class; incumbents learn routine wastewater treatment, laboratory tests, and machinery servicing, progressing to more complex tasks as they gain experience. Work is supervised and structured.
Water Reclamation Plant Operator II: Fully qualified journey-level; performs duties independently, exercises judgment, and handles full responsibilities with minimal supervision.
Water Reclamation Plant Operator III: Advanced-level; handles complex tasks requiring discretion, independent judgment, and experience. Responsible for establishing objectives and methods within general guidelines.
Receives supervision from higher-level operators, supervisory or management staff. Does not supervise staff directly.
