Job description

Responsibilities

Supervisory oversight of all laboratory personnel, functions, activities and analytical work associated with wastewater treatment process control. The Water Reclamation Laboratory Supervisor is to ensure compliance with EPA, RAPCA and other regulatory requirements, provide technical assistance to Water Reclamation Facility and/or the Industrial Pretreatment Program in compliance with Federal, State, NPDES and other division bureaus and participate in research projects related to division operations. Responsibilities also include preparing for and responding to emergencies, providing customer service for Dayton citizens, other divisions and fellow employees, and other projects and activities (including but not limited to, purchasing, preparation and submittal of regulatory reports, maintenance of continuous analyzers, IT work, etc.) as needed, to support facility operations. Must have the ability to assume the responsibilities of the Water Reclamation Bacteriologist Chemist and Instrumentation Specialist during their absence, performing all associated duties as required and function as the Wastewater Treatment Process Coordinator in certain situations and be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological or science related discipline. Must have 5 years of environmental lab experience AND 1 year of experience using Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and/or electronic data management systems. Wastewater treatment analytical chemistry laboratory experience with at least 1 year of advanced instrumentation, such as metals analysis using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS), is preferred. Must have an Ohio Water Environment Associate (OWEA) Voluntary Wastewater Laboratory Analyst II certification AND an Ohio EPA Water Reclamation Professional Operator Class II certification at time of appointment. Degree must be from a college or university that is accredited by the U.S. Department of Education through the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools Higher Learning Commission or equivalent region.

License Requirements

Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.

Special Requirements

Must obtain an Ohio EPA Water Reclamation Professional Operator Class III certification within 3 years of appointment AND the Ohio Water Environment Association (OWEA) Voluntary Wastewater Laboratory Analyst IV certification within 4 years of appointment. Both certifications must be maintained thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
