Job summary

Thurston County's Public Health and Social Services (PHSS) seeks an Environmental Health Program Manager to oversee Water Quality, Onsite Septic Operations & Maintenance, Solid/Hazardous Waste, and Lake Management District programs. You will supervise staff, analyze data, develop policies, and coordinate with agencies to safeguard public health and the environment.

Responsibilities include budgeting, emergency response planning, stakeholder reporting, and promoting sustainable water management.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Bacteriology, Zoology Engineering, or a related natural or physical science.
  • Five (5) years of professional environmental work experience including budget preparation and program planning/implementation.
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience of environmental professional staff.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret laws and regulations concerning water quality and septic systems.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, issues, and areas for improvement.
  • Develop and update program and departmental policies.
  • Develop work plans aligned with program goals and strategies.
  • Mentor and evaluate line supervisors to maintain effective teamwork.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with departments, agencies, and communities to promote sustainable water management.
  • Budget planning, preparation, and review.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans for water quality incidents.
  • May include 24/7 response during public health emergencies.
