Job summary

City of Red Oak is seeking a water and sewer maintenance worker to monitor, control, and oversee the City’s water distribution and wastewater systems. You will conduct daily water quality monitoring, operate SCADA, and maintain equipment while performing routine safety and maintenance tasks.

The role requires a high school diploma, municipal service experience, and licenses including TCEQ certifications. You will collaborate with the Public Works team to ensure safe, compliant operations.

Qualifications

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two years of current, consecutive municipal service.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with clear driving record.
  • NIMS Training within six months of hire.
  • Class II Wastewater Collection License and Class C Water Distribution License (TCEQ).
  • BPAT licensing or ability to obtain within two years.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control water distribution and wastewater systems.
  • Collect water samples and report water quality data.

  • Perform maintenance on valves, pumps, motors, and related equipment.
  • Assist with inspections, troubleshooting, and repair of lines.

  • Operate crane lift trucks for equipment installation and removal.
  • Maintain clean, safe work areas and comply with safety standards.
  • Work overtime and respond to emergencies as needed.

Job description

Under the general supervision of the Public Works Water & Sewer Supervisor, this position performs a variety of specialized tasks to monitor, control, and provide ongoing oversight of the City’s water distribution and wastewater systems. The employee safely performs manual labor and operates trucks, tractors, and other equipment to maintain water distribution and wastewater collection infrastructure. This position requires a strong attention to detail to accurately record, monitor, and report water quality data and to perform routine and minor maintenance activities.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform specialized water and wastewater system tasks, including:Conduct daily water quality monitoring and reporting
    • Collect and submit water samples in accordance with regulatory requirements
    • Monitor and operate the SCADA system
    • Monitor, adjust, and maintain disinfectant chemical levels
    • Perform water quality and pressure testing
    • Conduct routine safety and security inspections at water and wastewater facilities
    • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair valves, pumps, motors, and related equipment
    • Clean and maintain equipment on a daily basis
    • Operate pump stations and lift stations using automated or manual controls as required
    • Safely handle chlorine cylinders and liquid ammonia
  • Assist with inspections, troubleshooting, and repair of water and sewer lines.
  • Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding water quality, pressure, and service issues.
  • Operate crane lift trucks to remove and install pumps, motors, and other equipment.
  • Safely operate a variety of Public Works equipment, including manual, power, and motor-driven machinery and hand tools.
  • Support positive relationships between the City and the public through courteous and cooperative interactions.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with established work instructions, procedures, policies, and safety standards.
  • Identify, document, and report operational issues; recommend or implement solutions as appropriate.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
  • Demonstrate a cooperative attitude and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Protect classified, confidential, and sensitive information.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools as required.
  • Work overtime and respond to emergencies as needed to complete assigned tasks.
  • Comply with all departmental safety program policies and procedures.
  • Represent the City of Red Oak in a professional and appropriate manner at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of current, consecutive years of municipal service.
CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with clear driving record
  • NIMS Training obtained within six months of hire
  • Class II Wastewater Collection License and Class C Water Distribution License from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
  • Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester (BPAT) Licensing from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or ability to obtain within two (2) year of employment.
