Collier County is seeking an environmental lab professional to perform microbiological and chemical analyses of environmental water to ensure quality and compliance with federal, state, and local standards. The role includes sample collection, safety compliance, and maintaining quality control across lab processes.

Qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field and at least one year of related experience, with fingerprinting required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field is required.
• One year of related experience is required.
• Candidates without a related degree should possess an additional four years of related experience.
• Fingerprinting is required.

Responsibilities

• May serve as Laboratory Safety Officer; implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with applicable laws and regulations; follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; updates MSDS; disposes of hazardous waste materials per established procedures.
• Schedule collection of various samples according to established guidelines.
• Receives and logs samples; maintains chain of custody of samples.
• Prepares microbiological media, reagents, and control samples; maintains quality control of media and related lab materials.
• Performs laboratory analysis of microbiological and chemical components; inputs and interprets data; runs analysis on autoanalyzer.
• Conducts testing to identify levels of ammonia, conductivity, fecal coliform, nitrate, pH, TDS/TSS, and other analytes.
• Maintains logs and records of sampling activities and laboratory results; monitors temperatures of equipment.
• Calculates and records results; compares with standards.
• Reports test results to regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
• Operates a wide range of laboratory equipment and tools.
• Performs cleaning/maintenance tasks to keep equipment in good condition.
• Monitors inventory levels and initiates orders for materials.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related field
