Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a Water Quality Compliance Specialist (EMH I) to perform inspections, sampling, and evaluations for wastewater and stormwater programs. You will build knowledge of regulations, field techniques, and compliance processes while supporting statewide commitments.

This role may assist regional offices, requires strong communication, and involves occasional travel; a driver’s license is needed. Join a team focused on protecting SC water resources and public health.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience.
  • High school diploma or GED with two years environmental health experience; certification qualifies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collect environmental samples from monitoring stations and wastewater facility discharge points; prepare sampling equipment and calibrate tools.
  • Perform compliance inspections at wastewater, stormwater, and agricultural sites; submit documents and referrals as required.
  • Respond to investigations involving wastewater facilities, sewer overflows, and stormwater complaints; coordinate corrective actions and enforce when appropriate.
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and other duties supporting the team and SCDES mission.
