Job summary

The City of Kerrville is seeking a maintenance technician to perform scheduled and emergency maintenance of the Water Production facility and wells. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance on pumps, valves, and piping, fabricating pump rooms and fixtures, and handling chlorine cylinders.

Candidate must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, a Texas CDL, and operator certifications (or obtain within a year).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain facilities by scheduling and performing preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, valves, piping, and lubrication.
  • Fabricate and construct pump rooms, hoists, stairways, vaults, spillways, pipe racks, and workbenches; install new electric compressed air lines.
  • Perform emergency maintenance by repairing water production equipment.
  • Handle chlorine cylinders, regulators, and piping.
  • Perform grounds maintenance and cover for other operators as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance of the Water Production’s facility and wells.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

This information is intended to be descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position. The following examples do not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent.

  1. Maintain facilities by scheduling and performing preventative maintenance on pumps and motors, valves and piping and performing lubrication and oil changes.
  2. Improve facilities by fabricating and constructing new pump rooms, hoists, stairways, vaults, spillways, pipe racks and workbenches and installing new electric compressed air lines.
  3. Perform emergency maintenance by repairing damaged water production equipment.
  4. Handle chlorine cylinders, regulators, and associated piping.
  5. Perform grounds maintenance and other duties by relieving other operators in their absence.
  6. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Physical and Environmental Conditions

Duties are generally performed citywide in both outdoor and indoor settings. This is medium to heavy work requiring the exertion of fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, up to twenty (20) pounds of force frequently, and up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move, lift and push objects. Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. This position is subject to outside environmental conditions, including extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with training past high school from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
  • General carpentry skills.
  • Ability to seek and acquire certification, training or license as required by federal or state laws or as required by the division to perform and maintain functions and duties of the Water Production Division.
  • Ability to maintain good and acceptable working relationships with staff, other government officials and members of the public.
  • Ability to provide direction to helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns or temporary employees.
  • Ability to operate a City vehicle.
  • Ability to work an irregular schedule, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergency call-outs.
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Education, Certifications and Experience Required
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), and a driving record that complies with the City of Kerrville standards.
  • Possession of a Grade C Surface Water Operator Certification or obtain within one year of employment.
  • Possession of a Grade C Ground Water Operator Certification or obtain within one year of employment.
  • One year maintenance experience.
Special Requirements
  • This position participates in on-call and emergency call-out duties, and is subject to 24-hour on-call as required, serve on a rotation duty schedule for weekend duty and night call-outs, and required to respond to emergency call-outs.
