Job description

We're seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Water Plant Operator in Training. This role involves learning to operate, monitor, and maintain water treatment systems to ensure safe and efficient service. No prior experience required—just a willingness to learn and a commitment to public health and safety.

The responsibilities include:

  • Performing daily upkeep of the water treatment plant and janitorial duties of the facility.
  • Operating and maintaining groundskeeping equipment.
  • Maintaining a neat and clean appearance of buildings and grounds.
  • On-call responsibilities.
  • Custodial duties in administration and maintenance buildings, including inventory management of cleaning and sanitary products.
  • Maintaining the plant grounds (64 acres) and performing minor repairs on lawn equipment.
  • Performing electrical and mechanical maintenance on selected equipment.
  • Retrieving supplies from vendors.
  • Assisting senior operators with process control, chemical receipt, and operational procedures.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum requirements include:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Prior custodial and groundskeeping experience.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance of grounds equipment.
  • Class C Surface Water Treatment Certification from TCEQ.
  • Understanding of pumps and motors.

Ability to operate equipment such as buffers, tractors, mowers, edgers, trimmers, and trucks. Ability to work well with co-workers and the public.

The position involves medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
