The Water Plant Operator Apprentice role involves operation and maintenance of the Saint Joseph groundwater treatment facility, well field, booster stations, and tanks, including daily operations and safety compliance.

This position requires a work schedule of Tuesday to Thursday, 7 am to 3 pm, and Friday to Saturday, 3 pm to 11 pm.

Key Accountabilities
  • Manage daily operations and maintenance activities.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance work.
  • Assist with maintenance project preparations.
  • Ensure water quality, efficiency, and safety in source supply and treatment.
  • Complete production reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Knowledge
  • Understanding of distribution maps and facilities.
  • Ability to direct production staff and make decisions.
  • Promote a safe work environment.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of computers, RTUs, and PLCs.
Education

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Must obtain or have a MODNR Class A Water Operator Certification.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds and working in various weather conditions.
  • Availability for after-hours work and emergencies.
Other
  • Effective communication with contractors, customers, and team members.
  • Understanding of treatment processes, well field operation, and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions in problem situations.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of PLCs and RTUs.
  • Availability for emergencies and after-hours work.
