Job summary

Bedford Regional Water Authority is seeking a Water Operator trainee to join our team. The candidate will perform skilled and responsible work related to the operation of water treatment, distribution, and support facilities.

You will gain hands-on experience with conventional surface water treatment, membrane filtration, groundwater facilities, and distribution components while ensuring safe, compliant operations and timely reporting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid Virginia driver’s license with clean record.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and Excel.
• Ability to maintain accurate operational logs and prepare reports.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor multiple water system facilities including surface water treatment, membrane filtration, groundwater facilities, and distribution components.
• Read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, and instrumentation.
• Perform calibration and documentation of laboratory equipment and samples for regulatory compliance.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs and document work using authority software.
• Assist with valves, pumps, and system controls; adjust chemical dosages and flow rates as needed.
• Complete timely data entry for monthly reports and recordkeeping.
