The Water Operator position with the City of Astoria requires hands-on operation, monitoring and maintenance of the water system. You will use SCADA to track conditions, collect samples, log data and support storage facilities, with duties including testing and data entry.

The Water Operator performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled duties in the operation, monitoring and maintenance of the City's water system including treatment, storage and distribution facilities. Responsibilities include independent collection, analysis and data entry of water samples and readings, using the SCADA system and performing related work as required. The Water Operator also provides backup support for wastewater sampling, analysis, and data entry at the wastewater treatment plant on holidays. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Internal Operations Manager and in coordination with the Water Quality Supervisor and Water Source Operator.
This is a part-time position scheduled for 7-12 hours per week. The regular schedule is Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (11 days annually) with occasional weekdays for assignments or training as needed.

Employees must effectively use sight, hearing, and touch to monitor equipment and evaluate operational conditions. Frequent use of hands for operating controls and equipment is required, along with the ability to work at a computer for extended periods. Noise levels are generally moderate but may occasionally become loud in certain areas, such as in the reservoirs or around machinery.
