Job summary

Beltontexas is seeking a Meter Reader I under the Public Works department to read water meters for residential and commercial customers, ensuring accurate billing and excellent customer service. The role supports other departments as needed and requires reliable attendance.

Under supervision, you will handle meter operations, safety compliance, and occasional on-call duties. The position emphasizes teamwork, communication, and adherence to city policies.

Qualifications

• A High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Prefer one (1) year experience with meter operations.
• Must be able to obtain a Class D Water license within one (1) year from hire/date moved to position.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Texas driver’s license.
• Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Read water meters for residential and commercial customers for billing of water usage.
• Perform rereads and rechecks as requested.
• Turn water service on and off as requested.
• Replace malfunctioning MIUs and meters.
• Replace and maintain meter boxes and antennas.
• Set, move, remove, and inspect fire hydrant meters.
