Water Meter Foreperson – Utilities

Department: Department of Public Works – Water and Sewer Division

Hourly Rate: $33.70 per hour, plus excellent benefits

The Brookline DPW is seeking an experienced Water Meter Foreperson to lead a crew in maintaining and testing, installation and repair of water meters; conducting backflow testing, cross-connection surveys, reporting, and other related work, as required.

Key Responsibilities

Layout, assign, supervise and inspect the work of subordinates installing, testing and repairing water meters; process work orders for installation and repair of water meters; maintain records of meter locations by street address and serial number.

Maintain records of testing and repairs; maintain inventory of meters; submit requisitions to the Operations Manager for purchase of meters and related parts, tools and supplies.

Perform testing of backflow preventors; plan for the installation of backflow prevention devices; obtain testing schedules and make appointments for required inspections of reduced pressure backflows and double check value assemblies that have been approved; rebuild town-owned backflow devices.

Perform similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least 2-3 years of experience testing, installing and repairing water meters, or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class D, is required, as well as, MA Cross Connection Control Tester/Surveyor Certification. The ideal candidate has knowledge of methods, techniques, tools and material relating to the testing, installation and repair of water meters, including remote reading devices; knowledge of system repair, water testing and backflow testing; general knowledge of the operation of a water system and its component parts.

Ability to troubleshoot problems and recognize conditions requiring the replacement of water meters and establish working relationships with the general public and plumbers.
