Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County seeks a Water Exercise Instructor to lead group aquatic fitness sessions at the McGrath Family YMCA. You will ensure safe instruction, engage diverse participants, and maintain a welcoming environment aligned with the YMCA mission.

Responsibilities include proper technique, modifications for all fitness levels, and strict adherence to safety guidelines, with required certifications and timely administrative duties.

Qualifications

• Current Aquatic Exercise Association (AEA) Water Exercise certification OR a current NCCA-accredited certification in Group Exercise or Personal Training WITH a water exercise specialty certification (e.g., S’Wet, Water in Motion, Aqua Zumba, La Blast Splash, FiTOUR Aqua, ACE: WaterFit S.W.E.A.T.)
• All job required trainings within 90 days from date of hire
• Fingerprinted per licensing/state law and YMCA policies; background checks may follow conditional offers
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (Adult and Child/Infant) from ARC/AHA/ISHI or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Leads safe and effective water exercise classes by demonstrating proper form and technique; ensures music level complies with facility standards
• Greet participants, learn names, and provide modifications for diverse fitness levels
• Monitor techniques and maintain a clean, hazard-free pool deck and workout area to ensure safety
• Deliver well-structured, engaging workouts within scheduled class times; stay punctual, reliable, and professional as a YMCA representative
• Set up and breakdown class equipment within allocated time
• Foster community by building positive relationships and supporting members in health goals
• Adhere to YMCA Group Exercise Guidelines and organizational policies
• Complete attendance tracking and incident reporting; perform other duties as assigned
