Job description

Overview

Responsible for daily maintenance, cleaning, inspections and repairs of the District's water facilities and related infrastructure, including wells, reservoirs and pump stations. Performs a variety of scheduled duties related to the care, upkeep, and maintenance and/or repair of the District's water facilities as assigned by the Division Supervisor and/or Director. Responsible for assisting staff in promoting the District's mission through the distribution of safe drinking water. Must demonstrate safety leadership by promoting and facilitating the safety of coworkers and the public.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assists in the maintenance, inspections and repairs of pumps, piping, valves, generators, or any appurtenances related to the District's water facilities with general guidance.
  2. Keeps timely and accurate records of daily inspections, maintenance, and repairs on Cityworks. Reviews, and ensures accuracy of all inspections and work orders created by crew members.
  3. Assists in training new staff on procedures for maintenance and repair of water facilities. At times provide proper road set up for traffic control.
  4. Evaluates, recommends and communicates repairs, maintenance and concerns related to water facilities with the Division Supervisor and Director.
  5. Coordinates with IT Operational Technology Division, Water Repair and Replacement Division, and Administrative groups on water system maintenance, field activities and special repairs. Assists the IT Operational Technology Division with capital improvement completion, start-up, testing, and transfer to normal operations and maintenance.
  6. Actively take part in the Operations On-Call program. Must be able to respond after hours, as needed, to help with emergency situations and repairs.
  7. Perform duties as assigned.

Prior Work Experience

At least two years of job-related experience but willing to train individuals with some hands-on mechanical background.

Education and Training

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licenses, Certifications, Etc.
  • Valid Utah Commercial Driver's License: Class A with Tanker endorsements required, and Hazmat endorsement preferred.

  • Challenging working conditions within water operational facilities. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Frequent exposure to moderate noise, airborne particles, oils, toxic or caustic chemicals, vibration, wet or humid conditions, near moving mechanical parts, near street traffic or confined spaces.

Overall Effort and Work Location
  • Provides daily direct service to water systems staff. Provides occasional service to the District customers and employees.
  • Must be able to withstand regular periods of moderate physical or mental activity. Must be flexible to adjust for constantly changing operations.
  • Work is generally performed during normal business hours. Must be able to work a predictable and consistent schedule with occasional after hours work as may be required and determined by the changing circumstances. Must be able to fulfill emergency first response call responding to District emergencies as needed.
