Job summary

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Public Health Laboratory seeks a Scientist (Water Ecology) to perform routine water ecology tests and analyses, apply microbiological and molecular methods, and support water quality research in a BSL-2 lab. The role collaborates with local, state, and federal partners in environmental health.

You will maintain records, assist in method development, and contribute to surge testing during public health events, with a path to assignment level

Qualifications

• Master's degree in environmental or related field (or equivalent).
• Experience in water quality planning or laboratory analysis preferred.
• BSL-2 laboratory experience and familiarity with environmental testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine water ecology and water quality testing in a BSL-2 lab.
• Conduct moderately complex analytical procedures with proper calibration.
• Maintain detailed laboratory records and QA/QC documentation.
• Apply microbiological and molecular methods to monitor water quality.
• Assist in method development and surge testing during events.
