Job summary

The City of Columbia SC is seeking a Water Distribution Technician to install, test, inspect, locate, troubleshoot, maintain and repair components of the water distribution system. This position requires a high school diploma or GED, relevant experience, and valid SC CDL and water operator licenses; on-site work, physical stamina, and willingness to work on-call shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Valid SC Class D Driver’s License and CDL Class A within required timeframe.
• Must obtain FMCSA medical examiner’s certificate within 30 days of hire.
• Possess or obtain Water Distribution System Operator Class D license.
• Certification in asbestos, A Frame, and trench/shoring within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, inspect, locate, troubleshoot, evaluate, maintain and repair water system components.
• Operate and maintain light to heavy equipment used in water distribution tasks.
• Load/unload materials, perform routine maintenance and simple repairs on vehicles and equipment.
• Maintain accurate work records and submit detailed reports.
• Respond to inquiries and provide guidance to coworkers; work on-call rotation as needed.
