Job summary

The City of Las Cruces seeks a dedicated Water Utilities Worker to install, service, and repair water mains, wells, meters, and hydrants. You will support operators, assist with maintenance at wells and reservoirs, and help ensure continuous water service.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and two years of related experience, with CDL-A due within 12 months and water certifications as outlined. This is a full-time, union-represented position with shift work and occasional overtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years construction or water system experience.
• Experience in water system installation or maintenance preferred.
• Combination of education, experience, and training may be applied.

Responsibilities

• Installs, services, cleans, and repairs main water lines; completes reports on work requests.
• Installs and replaces meters, prepares meter reading cards, and completes reports on work requests.
• Digs manholes; locates meters, valve boxes and manholes; completes reports and provides senior level support.
• Unplugs water service; raises water valves and meter boxes; maintains and installs hydrants and new service lines.
• Responds to questions from the public regarding water shutoffs and meter changes.
• Maintains yards, fences, irrigation systems, buildings and air conditioning at wells, reservoirs, and boost stations.
• Performs yard and weed control maintenance.
