Job summary

City of Liberal is hiring a Water Distribution Operator to assist with the maintenance, installation, and repair of the water distribution system. You will work under the Water Distribution Supervisor and may support multiple divisions within Water Services.

The role requires knowledge of water system mechanics, ability to read instructions, operate hand and power tools, and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Experience with pumps, engines, water wells preferred.
• KDHE Class I certification must be obtained within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair water mains, service connections, hydrants, and valves.
• Set up barricades and warning devices near construction areas.
• Locate valves and water meters using maps or electronic detectors.
• Operate equipment such as trucks, trenchers, and dozer support tools.
• Open/close main valves for extensions or repairs.
• Ensure water service interruptions are communicated to customers.
• Work in various weather conditions and handle heavy physical tasks.
