Job summary

City of San Juan, Texas is seeking an entry-level grounds/water utility worker to perform street and utility line maintenance, hydrant work, and water taps. The role requires basic certifications and a valid Texas driver’s license, with on-call emergency responsiveness.

The position emphasizes teamwork in repairing water, sewer lines, and streets, plus equipment inspection and minor repairs, while offering opportunities for certification progress and cross-event support.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass TC EQ Class D Certification in Distribution Water or Level I Collection within six months and must also acquire a C License within 3 years.
  • Requires a valid Texas driver’s license and able to read/write English.

Responsibilities

  • Works as a member of a crew when repairing or maintaining water, sewer lines and streets.
  • Repairs and replace fire hydrants.
  • Makes water taps.
  • Inspects equipment for proper operation and safety prior to operating.
  • Responds to emergencies when required; (subject to on call)
  • Installation of new utility lines.
  • Repair utility lines.
  • Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
  • May perform other duties as assigned for different events (Ex. Parades or City Events).
  • Will perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills

Read and write English
Valid Texas driver’s license

Education

High school diploma or GED
TC EQ Class D Certification (Distribution Water) or Level I (Collection)
C License in Distribution Water or Level II (Collection)
Class B CDL (preferred)
