Job summary

The City of Brenham, TX is seeking a Motor/Equipment Operator to support the water and wastewater infrastructure maintenance. This role operates jet machines, backhoes, and pumps, performs routine inspections, and assists with new construction and repairs as needed.

Starting pay is $18.30 per hour, with higher rates possible for CDL holders, water licenses, or relevant experience. Residency requirements include timely response to emergencies within 30 minutes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and one year of heavy equipment operation experience.
  • Must obtain Class B CDL within 180 days or already have it; Class D Water Distribution License within 180 days.
  • Ability to perform safely under varied weather and outdoor conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate jet machine, power saw, underground utility locator, water pumps, backhoe, and cranes.
  • Maintain equipment, check oil, water, fuel, tires, and hydraulic system.
  • Perform routine maintenance and water meter work; conduct gallons per minute testing.
  • Flow test and maintain fire hydrants in the distribution system.
  • Set up street barricades and detours as needed.
  • Excavate around gas, sewer, electric, and telephone lines.
  • Complete work orders.
  • Clean and maintain vehicles, equipment, yard, and shop.
  • Serve on call duty with wastewater department to respond to after-hours problems.
