Job summary

City of Brenham is seeking a general equipment operator to support the water system's maintenance and construction needs. The role involves operating multiple machines and assisting with new construction or repairs to the Wastewater Collection System as required.

Starting pay is $18.30 per hour, with higher rates possible for candidates holding a CDL, relevant experience, or water licensing. Residency requirements apply for emergency response readiness.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus one year of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Knowledge of safe and effective equipment operation practices.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment such as jet machine, power saw, underground locator, water pumps, backhoe and cranes.
  • Maintains equipment by checking oil, water, fuel, tires, and hydraulics and performing adjustments.
  • Performs routine maintenance on water system components and tests gallons per minute.
  • Tests flow, troubleshoots, replaces and maintains fire hydrants in the distribution system.
  • Sets up street barricades and detours as needed.
  • Able to excavate around gas, sewer, electric and telephone lines.
  • Completes work orders and keeps vehicles, equipment, yard and shop clean.
  • On-call duty with wastewater department to respond to after-hours water or sewer issues.
