Job summary

Envirolink inc in Durham, NC is seeking an on-site Water/Wastewater Operator to join our operations team. You will oversee maintenance, perform repairs, and ensure compliance with state and company policies while coordinating with offices and field crews.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Operator in Responsible Charge for one or more water or wastewater facilities and perform maintenance and repairs according to state and company policies
  • Coordinate with office and field teams to ensure timely completion of tasks
  • Prepare compliance reports (DMRs, NDMR, Water Usage Reports, Wastewater Reports, Annual Report, CCR)
  • Operate and maintain facilities (pumps, valves, lines, hydrants, reservoirs, MCCs, control valves)
  • Execute preventive maintenance programs and pump efficiency tests
  • Notify supervisor of interruptions, non-compliance, safety issues, and major repairs
  • Collect samples per monitoring plan and respond to service interruptions with dispatch coordination
  • Complete daily work assignments in compliance with safety regulations and company policies
  • Keep accurate time, material, and equipment records
  • Ensure safety training in OHSA, DOL, and drug-free workplace requirements
  • Provide on-call duty as needed
  • Might participate in professional organizations and training courses to maintain competency
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • CPR and First Aid certification within 12 months of hire

Job DetailsJob Location: Durham Area - Durham, NC

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for maintaining an open, collaborative, team-oriented work environment with peers, Leaders, Management, and team members
  • Act as the Operator in Responsible Charge for one or more water and or wastewater facilities, perform the duties required to properly maintain and repair client or company water and /or wastewater systems in accordance with company policies and the rules of the State of North Carolina
  • Works with various company departments to ensure the timely completion of various assigned tasks.
  • Coordinates with office team members on the preparation of reports for compliance purposes that may include but not limited to: DMRs, NDMR, Water Usage Reports, Wastewater Performance Reports, Annual Report, Consumer Confidence Report, etc
  • Executes operations and maintenance activities associated with the water and wastewater facilities, including but not limited to main lines, valves, service lines, hydrants, pumps, reservoirs, motor control centers, automatic control valves, cleanouts, lift stations, manholes, odor control facilities, pressure and chemical booster stations
  • Executes preventive maintenance programs for various water and wastewater facilities, including pump efficiency tests, automatic control valves, motor control centers, gas engines, pump and chemical buildings and structures, fences and gates, lighting, landscaping, paving, testing and repair of production meters, etc
  • Notifies supervisor or other team members, as appropriate, of activities that result in interruption of customer service, non-compliance with state or company policies/procedures, near misses, accidents, safety issues, major equipment failures/repairs, ALL sanitary sewer overflows, water quality or availability issues and necessary corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with the State of North Carolina standards pertaining to the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater facilities under their responsibility
  • Collect samples according to the approved monitoring plan for the facilities under their responsibility
  • Responses to service interruptions and customer requests with the office team to provide prompt, courteous and efficient dispatch of company resources
  • Executes the completion of daily work assignments, ensuring activities are performed in compliance with all Envirolink, Federal and state safety regulations and procedures
  • Keeps daily time records and ensures data entry to monitor time, materials/equipment utilized on projects underway and completed
  • Ensures that safety precautions and procedures are followed in various work activities and instructs subordinates
  • Analyzes and evaluates pump equipment, troubleshooting malfunctions, and monitoring of water/wastewater operations
  • Notifies customers of scheduled and emergency outages
  • Develops knowledge of system operations, control settings, and plant/lift station operations
  • Ability to execute various programs related to municipal service and utilities such as: System Flushing Program, Cross-Connection Control Program, Spill Response Program and Preventative Maintenance Program
  • Reads and interprets technical and operational documents, manuals, blueprints, and diagrams
  • Familiar with all aspects of field activities related to water and wastewater
  • Familiar with all aspects of the water distribution and wastewater collection/treatment/disposal systems
  • Works under general leadership
  • Responsible for identifying gaps in resources and bring those gaps to the attention of supervisor
  • Communicates, both orally and written, with local officials, company management and team, customers, and others
  • Performs daily activities in order to best meet service objectives, regulatory requirements and company goals
  • Responsible for the proper execution of service orders, work orders, and projects on time and on budget
  • Attends safety meetings and communicates safety issues
  • Responsible for executing work assignments in compliance with OHSA, DOL, and ensuring a safe and drug free workplace
  • Provide on call duty
  • Participate in activities of various professional organizations, and attend seminars and training courses when necessary to maintain technical competency
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
  • CPR and First Aid certification must be obtained within 12 months of date of hire. May include but not limited to standing, climbing, walking, lifting, bending, pulling and/or pushing, grasping, reaching stooping and crouching, sitting, typing, walking, reading, writing, color determination, speaking and listening for extended periods of time.
