Job summary

Paycom - ATS seeks an Area Manager to lead safe, compliant water and wastewater operations across multiple sites in Raleigh, NC. You will retain clients, develop staff, coordinate resources, and serve as the main operational link between field teams, clients, and the Director of Operations.

This role requires supervisory experience, a background in water/wastewater operations, and a valid U.S. driver’s license. A background check and pre-employment medical review are required.

Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience in water and/or wastewater operations.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • NC Water Licensure (Grade B) and Grade 3 Wastewater or ability to obtain within 12 months preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

  • Direct regional operations to meet service levels and regulatory standards; lead client-retention efforts and resolve issues.
  • Lead, coach, and develop operating teams; plan staffing; participate in hiring; set expectations; evaluate performance.
  • Coordinate daily operations, maintenance schedules, and 24/7 on-call coverage; ensure timely incident response and reporting.
  • Prepare and implement water, wastewater, and sludge operating plans, compliance reports, and sampling schedules.
  • Develop and manage operating and capital budgets; monitor costs, productivity, and profitability.
  • Manage work orders, projects, schedules, deliverables, and scope changes with required approvals.
  • Coordinate contractors, purchases, invoices, timekeeping, and payroll inputs per company policy.
  • Ensure equipment, vehicles, tools, supplies, and inventory are available and maintained; address reliability needs.
  • Support strategic planning, client meetings; report risks, opportunities, and resource needs.
  • Attend regular client and company meetings; perform other duties as assigned.

The Area Manager leads safe, compliant, efficient, and profitable water and wastewater operations across an assigned region. This role retains and supports clients, develops employees, coordinates resources, and serves as the primary operational link between field teams, clients, and the Director of Operations. Access to confidential, private, or sensitive information requires successfully passing a background check.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Direct regional operations to meet contractual service levels, client expectations, regulatory requirements, and Envirolink environmental health and safety standards; lead client-retention efforts and promptly resolve service concerns.
  • Lead, coach, and develop operating teams; plan staffing; participate in hiring; set expectations; evaluate performance; recognize results; and address conduct, attendance, or performance issues.
  • Plan and coordinate daily operations and maintenance schedules, work assignments, preventive maintenance, and 24/7 on-call coverage; ensure timely incident response, documentation, and escalation.
  • Prepare, review, and implement water, wastewater, and sludge operating plans, compliance reports, sampling schedules, records, and required submissions.
  • Develop and manage operating and capital budgets; monitor costs, revenue, productivity, and profitability; identify variances, resource gaps, and corrective actions using meaningful performance metrics.
  • Manage work orders, projects, schedules, deliverables, and scope changes; communicate impacts and obtain authorization before performing out-of-scope work.
  • Coordinate contractors, purchases, materials, invoices, timekeeping, and payroll inputs in accordance with company policies; maintain appropriate records and approvals.
  • Ensure equipment, vehicles, tools, supplies, and inventory are available, maintained, secured, and used responsibly; address reliability and replacement needs.
  • Support strategic and business planning, operational reviews, proposals, and client meetings; communicate risks, opportunities, results, and resource needs to leadership.
  • Attend regular meetings (client and company)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of water and wastewater operations, maintenance, safety, environmental practices, regulatory compliance, reporting, and quality control.
  • Ability to lead multiple sites and teams, establish priorities, analyze operational and financial information, solve problems, exercise sound judgment, and remain effective during emergencies.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, client-service, interpersonal, organizational, computer, and practical math skills.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications and Employment Conditions
  • Prior supervisory experience and at least five years of experience in water and/or wastewater operations.
  • License Requirements - North Carolina Water Licensure (Grade B) and Grade 3 Wastewater or ability to obtain within 12 months preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and U.S. citizenship required.
  • Must have no felony convictions or major misdemeanor convictions and must successfully complete a criminal background check, including the background check required for access to confidential, private, or sensitive information.
  • Envirolink maintains a drug-free workplace; initial and random drug testing are required.
  • Following a conditional offer, successful completion of a pre-employment physical and medical-history review is required.
Physical Requirements

The position may require sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, grasping, repetitive hand use, speaking, hearing, close and distance vision, color and depth perception, and operating vehicles, tools, and equipment. Work may occur indoors and outdoors around noise, odors, chemicals, moving machinery, uneven surfaces, confined spaces, heights, traffic, and varying weather and temperatures.
