Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, environmental engineering, or related field.
• 0-5 years of relevant experience in industrial maintenance, wastewater treatment, or field engineering.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Proficient in mechanical systems and fluid dynamics; preferred water treatment knowledge.
• Experience with installation/commissioning of pumps, valves, instrumentation, PLCs/SCADA.
• Hands-on field work in outdoor/industrial environments; strong communication skills.
• Familiar with P&IDs, CAD, automation platforms, and environmental testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular field inspections and technical assessments of site infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures.
• Collect, manage and report operational data.
• Troubleshoot and oversee repairs for HVAC, pumps, motors, piping, valves, and VFDs.

Position Summary

RSI is recruiting an Operations Engineer who will be responsible for the technical operation, maintenance, and optimization of wastewater treatment facilities and infrastructure to ensure regulatory compliance and operational efficiency. This role applies mechanical engineering principles to ensure the reliability of site operations and treatment systems through hands‑on field assessment, troubleshooting, and project support.

FLSA: Exempt

Hiring Range: $65,000.00 -$75,000.00 per year. (The anticipated starting salary is based on the posted minimum requirements for this position. The offered salary will be based upon the selected applicant’s education, training, and experience.)

The position requires 50% time in the field. Travel may be required 10% of the time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform regular field inspections and technical assessments of site infrastructure, including groundwater and leachate treatment systems.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures.
• Collect, manage and report operational data.
• Troubleshoot and oversee repairs for mechanical components such as HVAC systems, pumps, motors, piping, valves, and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and support the maintenance of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and associated control logic for site treatment and infrastructure.
• Participate in project design reviews to provide input from a mechanical engineering and control system perspective.
• Interact with and oversee subcontractors and vendors.

Required Education and Years of Relevant Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, environmental engineering, or related field.
• 0-5 years of relevant experience in industrial maintenance, wastewater treatment, or field engineering.

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Driver’s License.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Proficient in mechanical systems and fluid dynamics processes. Preferred skill set in industrial water treatment processes.
• Oversee the installation and commissioning of pumps, valves, instrumentation, and control systems programmable logic controls and supervisory control and data acquisition (PLCs/SCADA).
• Demonstrated ability to perform hands‑on field work, including physical inspections and technical troubleshooting in an outdoor/industrial environment.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations related to mechanical systems and environmental controls.
• Proficiency with piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), CAD software, automation/control platforms, and environmental compliance testing
• Excellent communicator, both verbally and in written form.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Essential Physical Requirements

Medium: Work involves moving objects by exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an above-negligible amount and up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
