Job summary

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Treatment Plant Operator in the Water & Wastewater Services Division. The role covers operating equipment, monitoring plant processes, performing routine maintenance and sampling to meet state and federal standards.

Ideal candidates have six months of related experience or completed Pre-Apprenticeship in water or wastewater operations, and must obtain a Class C Water or Wastewater Operator

Qualifications

• Requires six (6) months experience in operation or maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical equipment similar to that utilized in treatment plant operations OR completion of the Pre-Apprenticeship program in either Water Operations or Wastewater Operations through Junior Achievement of South Florida.
• Must obtain the Class C Water or Wastewater Plant Operator License within two (2) years of hire.

Responsibilities

• Operate equipment related to wastewater treatment plant processes and monitor performance.
• Perform maintenance and repairs on water/wastewater equipment and assist maintenance crew.
• Collect samples, test data, and record results for regulatory reporting.
• Monitor chemical usage, adjust processes, and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Perform routine cleaning and rounds to ensure safe and efficient plant operation.
