THE CITY OF COLTON HAS AN IMMEDIATE OPENING AS A WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR I OR II!This recruitment will be used for current and future vacancies. Depending on qualifications, candidates may be hired at a level I or II. Salaries are:
- Level I: $5,126.98 - $6,231.85
- Level II: $5,894.58 - $7,164.89
DEFINITION:Under the supervision of a senior wastewater treatment plant operator, performs semi-skilled and limited skilled maintenance duties and operates equipment within the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:The
Operator I is an entry-level classification performing manual tasks under close supervision, progressing to general supervision with experience. May work holidays, evenings, weekends, and be on call.
Operator II is a journey-level classification performing more technical duties, including operating heavy equipment and maintaining wastewater equipment. May oversee lower classifications and work outside regular hours.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Perform maintenance, check equipment, take and interpret readings, operate trucks and heavy machinery, collect samples, perform tests, maintain records, and perform related duties.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:High school diploma or equivalent required.
Operator I: 1 year of relevant experience.
Operator II: 2 years of relevant experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Valid California Class "C" driver's license, good driving record, and specific certifications are required or desired depending on the level.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, AND SKILLS:Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, equipment operation, safety regulations, and relevant laws. Ability to operate equipment, perform tests, follow instructions, maintain records, and establish effective work relationships. Skills include operating heavy machinery, tools, and computers.
RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION:Candidates will be selected based on qualifications and interviewed. The eligibility list is valid for one year.
