Wastewater Treatment Plant Bio-solids Operator – flexible shift, see requirements below
Hiring Rate: $33,419.10* (DOQ)
General Duties and Responsibilities: Perform equipment-tending, laboratory and observational work in the municipal wastewater bio-solids treatment facility. Use equipment, such as a belt press de-watering and gas dryer system to convert municipal wastewater sludge into usable “Class A” bio-solids product suitable for application to farmlands.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have the ability to gain knowledge of the methods, equipment, and materials used in the operation of a wastewater treatment bio-solids facility; ability to respond appropriately to emergency situations; ability to perform certain laboratory tests and record results.Must be able to operate certain heavy equipment, such as front-end loader and dump truck. Must have the ability to obtain wastewater certification levels in a timely manner, as well as land application certification. Must have the ability to tactfully communicate with the public, City officials and staff, as well as fellow co-workers.
Requirements: Completion of high school; minimum of three years of stable work history; prefer completion of courses in wastewater treatment with a minimum of either a Wastewater Treatment Grade I or Land Application certification or prior experience in public utilities.
*Candidates without a minimum certification will be paid at a trainee rate (5% below minimum) until a certification in wastewater treatment or land application is obtained. Candidate will have one year to obtain certification. Candidates with certifications in wastewater will receive minimum rate + $1/hr. based on their certifications for the bio-solids operator duties.
This position requires the physical ability to lift 50 lbs. or more; to see, hear, climb, kneel, bend, and squat. This position requires ability to work in varying weather conditions. Shifts are flexible and may include nights, weekend hours, and/or limited day shift hours, or a combination of these shifts; this is a 24/7 operation.
