Job summary

Eagle River Water and Sanitation District is hiring a Wastewater Operator to join our team at the Avon Wastewater Treatment Facility. This role blends science, problem solving, and hands-on mechanical work to protect our community’s water resources and ensure regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include controlling the treatment environment, performing routine maintenance and laboratory tests, operating pumps and SCADA data, and collaborating with staff to meet discharge limits.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; science coursework preferred.
  • Experience with operations, service, or maintenance of mechanical equipment is required.
  • Laboratory experience preferred.
  • Computer skills preferred, including Microsoft Office and SCADA.
  • Must possess Colorado Wastewater Operator Class D certification within one year of hire.
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s license within 30 days of full-time employment.
  • Potential to obtain a Class B CDL.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required within the first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Operations: Control the chemical and biological treatment environment through monitoring and adjusting systems to ensure microorganisms break down waste and meet regulatory standards.
  • Mechanical Expertise: Troubleshooting, repairs, and routine adjustments to keep equipment running reliably and safely.
  • Laboratory: Collect samples, conduct tests, monitor data, analyze trends, and recommend adjustments to meet discharge limits.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate pumps and sludge equipment; monitor SCADA data to identify trends and anomalies.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Inspect and repair equipment; assist with larger maintenance projects as needed.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect data and make process control decisions from plant observations and lab data.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow safety policies; assist with inspections; maintain PPE and clean work areas.

Eagle River Water and Sanitation District is hiring aWastewater Operator to join our team ofdedicatedenvironmental professionalsat the Avon Wastewater Treatment Facility. This role combines science, problem solving, and hands-on mechanical work to protect one of our community’s most valuable resources: water.

Dayto Day:
  • Operations: Control the chemical and biological treatment environment through monitoring and adjusting systems to ensure microorganisms effectively break down waste and produce clean water that meets regulatory standards.
  • Mechanical Expertise: General mechanical work, includingtroubleshooting/diagnosing issues, performing repairs and part replacements, making routine adjustments, and coordinating fixes to keep equipment running reliably, while following safe work practices and escalating complex issues
  • Laboratory: Collect samples, conduct laboratory tests, andmonitorsystem data for process control and compliance. Identifytrends, analyze results, and recommend adjustments to meet regulatory discharge limits.
  • Equipment Operation: Operatepumps, motors, sludge equipment, and odor control systemsin accordance withregulatory discharge limits. Monitor and evaluate SCADA data toidentifytrends and anomalies.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform general equipment inspections, adjustments, and minor repairs. Collaborate with senior staffregardingequipment needs or larger maintenance projects andassistwith replacements as needed.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collects wastewater operations and control data, making process control decisions based on plant observations, lab data, and historical trends.
  • Safety and Compliance: Follow established safety policies,assistwith monthly inspections, ensure the availability of first aid and PPE materials, and clean plant areas to ensure efficient and safe operations.
  • High school diploma or GED, related college-level coursework in scientific fields preferred
  • Experience performing operations, service, or maintenance of mechanical equipment
  • Laboratory experience preferred
  • Computer skills preferred, including Microsoft suite and SCADA
  • Must possess a Colorado Wastewater Operator Class D certification within one yearof hire
  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s license within 30 days of full-time employment
  • Potential to obtain a Class B CDL
  • CPR/First Aid Certification required within the first six months of employment.
Schedule

This role is scheduled five days per week from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., following either a Sunday–Thursday or Tuesday–Saturday schedule.Candidates must bewilling to work overtime, holidays, and weekendsas well aswillingto work in on-call rotationwith theability to respond to call outs within one hour.

Salary Range

There are four levels of Wastewater Operator with different titles and pay ranges depending on certifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities. TheDistrictwill support you in earning your licenses. Pay range and title depend on certifications and experience:

  • -Operator I: $27.74– $38.83
  • -Operator II (requires CCWP Operator C License): $30.58 – $42.82
  • -Operator III (requires CCWP Operator B License): $32.11– $44.96
  • -Senior Operator (requires CCWP Operator A License): $37.18– $52.05
