Job description

Job Title: Wastewater Technician

Location: Greenleaf, WI

Manager: Wastewater Supervisor

Pay: $26 - $32/hour (based on experience)

Schedule: Full-time, 2:30pm-11pm or 11pm-7am

Job Summary

The Wastewater Technician plays a critical role in supporting renewable natural gas (RNG) production by operating, maintaining, and repairing wastewater treatment systems. This position involves skilled technical work to ensure all systems run efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. The technician's efforts directly contribute to the reliable and sustainable production of renewable energy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Operations Support:
    • Operates and monitors water treatment system (UF, RO, NF, ION Exchange, MBBR)
    • Independently monitor and operate wastewater treatment equipment, including pumps, motors, blowers, chemical feed system, and other applicable equipment.
    • Regularly perform water analysis and engage in advanced problem-solving to apply and provide appropriate chemical solutions for treatment.
    • Adjust treatment processes based on data analysis and operational needs.
  2. Maintenance and Repair:
    • Perform routine preventive maintenance on wastewater systems, equipment, and infrastructure.
    • Independently perform and maintain maintenance tasks and records on all major equipment of treatment plant.
    • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components of the wastewater facility to minimize downtime.
  3. Regulatory Compliance:
    • Follow all applicable federal, state, and local regulations regarding wastewater operations.
    • Perform routine and as needed analysis of the wastewater treatment system in such a way as to maintain the effluent from the system in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Assist in preparing reports and documentation for regulatory agencies, specifically addressing RNG compliance requirements.
    • Participate in inspections and audits as needed.
  4. Safety and Environmental Stewardship:
    • Adhere to safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
    • Report and respond to safety hazards and equipment malfunctions promptly.
    • Support initiatives to enhance environmental sustainability and resource efficiency.
  5. Emergency Response:
    • Respond to operational emergencies, such as equipment failures or system alarms.
    • Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies as assigned.
    • Assist in containment and mitigation efforts during environmental or operational incidents.

Education/Experience is required when indicated, desired otherwise.

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. Additional technical training or coursework in wastewater treatment, environmental science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in wastewater operations or a related field, preferred.
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Valid state wastewater operator certification (Level I or II, depending on state requirements).
    • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Skills:
    • Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
    • Display technical competency of water or wastewater operations and maintenance.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency with basic computer systems and software for data entry and reporting.

Satisfactory performance of the essential duties of this job will require standing, kneeling, sitting, and walking as well as fine motor skills (especially of the hands) and the extended reach of arms. Climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, and crawling will be required. Regular senses of smell, hearing, and sight are required. The capacity to occasionally lift up to 75 pounds is required.

Work Environment

The duties of this job will include working both in an office environment and outdoors in the weather year-round as well as in industrial spaces with operating machinery. Exposure to high heat and high humidity as well as cold weather and high winds can be expected. This job also includes potential exposure to high noise, fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals, acids and caustic chemicals, flammable and/or poisonous atmospheres, hot surfaces/equipment, cold surfaces/equipment, high vibrations, confined spaces, elevated working surfaces, vehicle traffic, and animal manure.

Compensation

Salary is paid on a bi-weekly basis and will be consummate with the value and experience the candidate brings to the role. In addition to base salary, compensation includes the option to participate in company sponsored medical, dental, and vision insurance plans and in a retirement savings program as well as paid personal time off and holidays. You will also be eligible for Short-Term Incentive program paid out at 1.25% of your annual salary on a monthly basis if goals are met.
