Job summary

The City of Sumner is seeking a Pretreatment Specialist to join the wastewater operations team. This role focuses on inspections, sampling, regulatory compliance, and helping businesses meet requirements to protect the Sumner wastewater system.

You will work closely with City staff, customers, consultants, and regulators, performing fieldwork and data analysis while maintaining safety and quality service.

Qualifications

• Minimum education includes a high school diploma or higher.
• Preferred Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, or related field.
• Three (3) years of pretreatment, source control, or equivalent experience.
• One (1) year of wastewater facility laboratory experience or similar lab work.

Responsibilities

• Inspect commercial/industrial facilities for compliance with wastewater regulations.
• Perform wastewater sampling and flow monitoring, and maintain records.
• Provide guidance on pollution prevention and best management practices.
• Assist in pretreatment program administration, permits, and reporting.
• Prepare reports and communicate findings to staff, customers and regulators.
• Coordinate with internal teams and regulatory agencies.
