Job summary

The City of Madison is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Class III Trainee to assist in the safe operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the municipal wastewater plant on a full-time, on-site basis.

Entry salary starts at $17.55 per hour ($36,503.43 annually). The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid Georgia driver’s license, and the ability to obtain a Class II wastewater license with potential to obtain Class I within one year.

Qualifications

• Possession of a High School diploma or GED certificate.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia.
• Possession or ability to obtain a State of Georgia Wastewater Operator License Class II or higher, with the ability to obtain Class I within one (1) year.

Responsibilities

• Assists in wastewater treatment plant start-up and shut-down operations.
• Collects wastewater samples and assists in conducting basic process control analyses; assists in adjusting plant operations based on laboratory test results as needed.
• Assists in cleaning, repairing, and maintaining plant equipment, including performing preventive maintenance.
• Assists in maintaining inventories of plant equipment, parts, and supplies.
• Adheres to safe work practices and follows established safety policies and procedures.
• Assists in laboratory operations as needed.
• Performs janitorial and grounds maintenance duties.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

Wastewater Operator License Class II or higher (ability to obtain Class I within 1 year)
